Home office
Although working from home was not new to us, we had never worked remotely full-time and for so long. We had to switch to new courses of action. It was a challenge, but we knew we could cope!
Organisation
Organisation of work time and space, without it in our industry not a move! The calendar, the ‘to do’ list, working in sub-teams, brainstorming – it doesn’t change with us. We can’t meet on the red sofas? No problem. Online meetings are just as fruitful and gossip over virtual coffee is invariably entertaining.
Mobilisation
We are surrounded by a different space, sitting in a different chair, at a different desk, drinking coffee from the home coffee machine – but nothing else changes. Clients don’t slow down, and neither can we!
Lounging in bed for long periods of time, working in our pyjamas, the TV on in the background – this is definitely not for us. The tracksuit has been replaced by a shirt, the mess on our head is under control and our make-up is ready. Go! 8:00 ready for action we report to the computer!
Mastery
Many of us have discovered new reserves of patience and composure during this time. The base under the desk where you work, the two-hour concert on the dulcimer, the thousands of questions ‘Mum,
why?’ and a classic of the genre: the strong urge to share a new story with you while you have just had a videoconference.
To top it all off, there’s the cat who has found a new bed for important documents and the dog poking you with his paw at the pile of toys you’ve brought. Are you at home and not paying attention? For our four-legged friends, this is completely incomprehensible.
And finally, the neighbour who wanted to do a general renovation of his flat during this period. The drill, the saw, the sound of breaking tiles – poetry. These are the sounds that every home worker dreams of.
But you know what? We came to face all these situations and … we managed!
Multitasking
Multitasking is our daily bread. On a daily basis, we are brainstorming, simultaneously answering emails and sending requests for quotations for the next event. In the background, graphic designers are asking for materials for projects that the client would like to have as soon as possible, preferably ‘yesterday’. The more it happens, the more interesting it gets. Now we had to add some down-to-earth items to the daily routine. The courier has just brought a parcel and asks to go outside the house, the toddler has spilled his third cup of tea, the ten-year-old asks for help with his lessons, the dog has chewed up a toy and your living room resembles a snowy field. We know this very well. And this is our real multitasking today.
How was it? We made it!
What has the home office given us? We have reinvented ourselves. Today we can confidently say that we are masters of organisation!
